“ I visited District Sitapur & Lakhimpur villages where SVSSPF had installed solar streetlights and solar home systems. Villagers were enthusiastic about solar. I was impressed by the variety of ways people use the streetlights. Not only do the lights make foot and vehicle transportation easier and safer, but they enable many after dark activities. Farm chores like mixing animal feed and threshing grain, as well as household tasks like cooking, and children reading and playing under the SVSSPF Solar Street lights. People also did not mind their neighbours coming over to work under them. “
“During three weeks visit to INDIA in April’ 2025,
I carried out more than 350+ interviews with doctors, nurses, teachers and students in some of the most marginalised villages of Uttar Pradesh.
Everywhere a Solar Village Project solar-battery system was already installed, the difference was immediate—fans kept turning, vaccines stayed cold and lessons continued without interruption. Patients, staff and students all wondered why every clinic and school couldn’t have power like this.”

“In winters, many girls used to leave school early due to dark classrooms, Parents were also concerned about safety. Now with solar Power plant installed at our school by Solar Village Project, classrooms lighting are bright and safe also till late noon. Now the attendance among girls has gone up noticeably.

Earlier it was a major challenge due to long power cuts of up to 8-12 hours daily.

“ We had a smart TV donated by another NGO, but we rarely used it due to power cuts. Since the solar panels were installed, now we use it daily to show science animations and lessons. Students are more curious and involved in the topic. Teaching students on TV is helping them in better understanding through real time visual images and videos of the topics “
“ Before solar power came, we would keep sitting in dark classroom during power cuts. It was hard to read on the blackboard.
Thankfully,Now with uniteruptted Solar Power lights always on, studying in classroom has become much easier and we are able to read blackboard and books comfortably. “
“ Before the solar light was installed near my house, I had to finish all my outdoor household work before dark. Now, I can wash utensils, clean the courtyard, feed the cattle, and even sort grains in the evening without rushing. The light is bright enough for me to see clearly, and my daughter-in-law can fetch water from the handpump safely at night. It feels like we have gained extra hours in the day”.

Once the inverter had a problem, and it was fixed within 3 days of reporting. In fact, recently due to power backup concerns at our health center-they have changed the entire batteries bank pack with new set for uninterrupted power supply at our PHC .This kind of maintenance support also is rare. ”
“ Earlier, sometimes for treating the patients late evening the Doctors had to say, ‘let’s wait for light’ after sunsets. I was bitten by a snake in the field around 7 PM. It was getting dark when we reached the clinic, thankfully this time the health center was ready, lights were on, emergency medicines were available, and the doctor could treat me immediately. Solar power saved me. ”.
“In the past, if the power used to went out in the middle of a test , we had to restart & re do everything again . Now with the solar power backup at our PHC , we run all medical equipment’s uninterrupted. Whether it’s blood tests, malaria kits, Nebulizer or even operating the centrifuge, everything is smoother and faster.”
“ We had been struggling for street lights for years as the electricity supply here is highly unreliable and normal lights generally never light up . These solar street lights installed by Solar Village Project company are a blessing for the Villagers specially in the night. They work every night, even during power cuts. The village square is now safe & lively in the evenings; Children can also play safely now in the dark.”
“ Earlier, the entire main road to our village stretch was pitch dark after sunset. Women and school children were hesitant to walk back home in the evening as it was unsafe due to animals and mud roads. Since the solar Street lights have come, the whole path is lit and safe now for all the villagers after sunset. Now Villagers can go to the market or attend functions without fear and return back late also. Even the local shopkeepers have started keeping their shops open after sunset till later hours. Solar Street lights around the Village have helped the villagers to continue working for late hours also for their livelihood. “
